Please email or call to find out more about our new 5 element cylindrical lens.

A WORLD FIRST 21st CENTURY Design and a step up in complexity from even the mighty ISCO3, which is a "traditional" 4-element, 2-group design (like all the other Home Cinema cylindricals).

Is this the finest Home Cinema lens ever built? YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT!

Field testing and prototyping was completed some months ago. The results, as we expected, were exceptionally good to say the least. This lens has been years in the making. Our desire to improve on what was already in the market place meant various challenges had to be met.

Working with Australia’s finest anamorphic optical engineer and renowned lens guru - Tony Dummett (aka "Aussie Bob") - we have succeeded in producing what we believe to be the finest Anamorphic lens ever built for Home Cinema, period!

Without stringing this out with long and over detailed specs, we will just say the following: The more complex an anamorphic lens is and the more aberations corrected, the better the image will be. You can email us for a full run down of the CrystalMorphic 5E specs if you wish.
The end result is in the image this lens produces - A high contrast, high brightness, razor sharp, single pixel clarity image that will leave you speechless. This lens also works down to throw ratio's of 1.45, however 1.8 or greater are recommended.

Did we mention it comes with a fully adjustable - x, y and z axes - stand, ready for the industry standard CineSlide motorized sled?

RRP OF $5,999 AU

The first 20 will be offered at an intro price.

Here is a screen shot from the Field Testing from June 2010. One of my favourite screen shots that shows edge to edge focus, from the movie Shooter.

We start here with a Cinemascope projection screen that has a ratio of 2.37:1 (21.33 X 9). All cinemascope movies will have grey bars at the top and bottom which make up a total of 25% of the image height. These grey bars are not black as digital projectors cannot project black, only shades of grey (which vary according to the projector being used).

There are only 810 viewable lines of resolution for a 1080P Projector when viewing a letterboxed movie.

a

Image width, at this point is still currently 33% narrower than the 21:9 Cinemascope screen ratio. Note the black bars top and bottom are now gone. We have electronically scaled the image with the Projector and the black bars, which contain some 500,000 pixels which are now utilised and illuminated which increases your brightness. We are now using the Projectors native 1080P panel resolution.

a

The 3rd step is to use an Anamorphic Lens. The CrystalMorphic 5E Lens is a horizontal expansion lens that optically restores the geometry of the vertically stretch image. The result is deluxe cinemascope widescreen with no annoying grey bars top or bottom ever again. Take a look at the top shot (the letterboxed image) and compare it to the image on the left.

This is how they do it at the movies. The ads finish, a lens slides into place and the curtains open up to the walls. Cinemascope is meant to be larger than HDTV, not smaller than the 6 o'clock news!

When we utilise the pixels from the grey bars we increase the overall vertical pixel count. On a 1080P projector there are only 810 viewable lines of resolution when watching a cinemascope movie without a lens (top image). When we vertically stretch an image we end up utilising the full 1,080 lines of resolution. (the way we were meant to view the movie as per the cinemas) This results in a 25% increase in active pixels, in other words, upto a 20% increase in brightness. (Imagine the above images being a white field to understand better)

Imagine being at the Cinema, knowing what you went to see was a Scope film, the ads and previews come on and run their course, you're waiting for the lens to slide across and the curtains to open right out the walls, but something else happens. They present the Cinemascope movie as a letterboxed 16:9 film with grey bars top and bottom. Oh the shock, the image is the same width as the boring ads but is 25% shorter. The ads were bigger! Doesn't quite sound right does it? The ads were bigger than the actual movie. Your blockbuster movie becomes a fizzer in many ways.

Well, sadly this is what we've been settling for in Home Theatre. If you use a 16:9 screen (or a TV), all your Cinemascope movies will be smaller than the local news! If you do the maths, a letterboxed 16:9 image is 1.78 X .75 = 1.33 - This means letterboxed scope films have an image area the same as a 4:3 film, or 33% smaller than the news and 77% smaller than Cinemascope with a lens in place.

How do you create that immersion factor you get at the Cinema in your own home? You do what the pros do, use an Anamorphic Lens and a Cinemascope Screen. (The majority of screens at cinema complexes are in an aspect ratio of 21:9, not 16:9, they simply use curtains to mask the width when required)

The CrystalMprhic 5E lens will bring true Cinemascope into your home! A-Lenses will always be an essential part of home cinema for those wanting an immersive movie experience. We see the lens as a normal piece of home theatre equipment, just like the projector and screen.

They don't present films at the Cinemas like this!
This is The 6 O'Clock News!
- Smaller than the evening news! -

a

....In all it's glory....

...25% Taller, 33% Wider, 100% Immersion...

Here is another properly scaled comparison between the 3 image sizes.

a

The Letterboxed scope film is only 1.33 Squares (same image area as an old 4:3 TV screen)

a

1.78 Squares (Modern HDTV format) Same width as the above letterboxed image but 25% taller as there are no black bars when you watch the news or any 16:9 format films.

a

2.37 Squares = 77% larger than the original Letterboxed image and 33% wider than the original HDTV image.

It's all about Immersion and re creating what is done at the Cinema.
